LONDON: Chelsea F.C. appointed Xabi Alonso as the club’s new manager on Sunday, handing the Spaniard a four-year contract as the Blues continue their search for a return to the top of English football.
Chelsea’s disappointing season hit another low after their FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City F.C. on Saturday, while the club currently sits ninth in the Premier League with just two matches remaining.
Alonso arrives at Stamford Bridge after emerging as one of Europe’s most highly-rated young coaches, having guided Bayer 04 Leverkusen to a historic unbeaten Bundesliga and German Cup double during the 2023/24 campaign.
