MIAMI: Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka kept their “Sunshine Double” ambitions on track with commanding wins at the ATP/WTA Miami Open on Monday, as defending men’s champion Jakub Mensik was among several seeded players to suffer early exits.
Both Sinner and Sabalenka are aiming to join an elite group of players who have won back-to-back titles at Indian Wells and Miami, arriving in Florida full of confidence after their triumphs in California earlier this month.
World number one Sabalenka, defending the Miami Open title she claimed last year, delivered a dominant performance to reach the quarter-finals, defeating China’s 2024 Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen with a convincing 6-3, 6-4 victory.
