CALCUTTA: Kolkata Knight Riders have decided to retire jersey number 12 as a tribute to legendary all-rounder Andre Russell, recognizing his exceptional contributions to the franchise in the Indian Premier League.
The three-time champions made the announcement during their preseason event, Knights Unplugged 3.0, held on Tuesday evening. Russell, affectionately referred to as the “Eternal Knight” by the franchise, has been honoured for his long-standing service and impact on the team over the years.
Russell, who has now returned to the KKR setup as a “power coach” ahead of the new season, enjoyed a remarkable 12-year association with the franchise. He represented Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL from 2014 to 2025, becoming one of the most influential and consistent performers in the team’s history.
His explosive batting, useful bowling spells, and match-winning ability made him a fan favourite and a key figure in KKR’s success across multiple seasons. The decision to retire his jersey number reflects the franchise’s appreciation of his legacy and enduring contribution to the team’s identity and achievements.
