MUNICH: American star Ben Shelton, ranked sixth in the world, captured the Munich Open (ATP 500) title on clay courts after defeating Italy’s Flavio Cobolli, ranked 16th, in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 in Sunday’s final.
The victory marks Shelton’s second title of the season, following his triumph in Dallas on hard courts in February, and the fifth ATP title of his career.
Shelton also avenged last year’s Munich final defeat, where he fell in straight sets (2-6, 4-6) to Germany’s world number three Alexander Zverev.
