DOHA: Qatar suffered a 3-0 defeat by France in their second Group A match at the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U17 World Championship in Doha on Friday.
France dominated from the outset at Aspire’s Women’s Sports Hall, winning all three sets 25-11 to secure their second victory of the tournament and book a place in the next round.
Qatar, who are hosting the championship through Aug. 29, will finish their group campaign against Tunisia on Sunday in a crucial Arab clash as they seek a positive result.
Qatar player Ahmed Hamdy said his team had faced a strong French side but praised his teammates for their effort.
“We faced a strong French team and gave our best,” Hamdy said. “With greater concentration, we could have produced a better performance.”
He added that the match provided valuable experience for Qatar ahead of their final group game
“The match against Tunisia will be important and competitive. We will prepare well and give our best to achieve a positive result,” Hamdy said.
France’s victory strengthened their position in Group A, while Qatar must now turn their attention to Tunisia and the opportunity to end the group stage on a positive note.
Elsewhere, Argentina defeated Mexico 3-0, Iran beat Pakistan 3-0, Italy overcame India 3-1 and Bulgaria defeated Spain 3-1.
Saturday’s programme includes Tunisia against Venezuela, Brazil versus Poland, Cuba against Romania, Chinese Taipei versus Algeria, and Egypt facing Turkiye.
