DOHA : The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) has announced the calendar for the 2026-27 season, with men’s and age-group competitions set to begin from September as clubs prepare for the new campaign.
The men’s general league will tip off on Oct. 10, with the opening phase played in a single round-robin format before the competition moves into a knockout stage to determine the champion.
The Qatar Cup will also be contested on a knockout basis, although its start date has yet to be announced. The prestigious HH the Emir Cup will follow the same format, with its schedule to be confirmed later.
Youth competitions will begin earlier, with the under-14 league starting on Sept. 12, followed by the under-16 competition on Sept. 13 and the under-19 league on Sept. 14.
Each age-group league will feature an initial single-round phase before the leading teams advance to knockout rounds.
The federation will also organise Qatar Cups for the under-14, under-16 and under-19 categories, all of which will be played in knockout formats. Dates for those competitions will be announced at a later stage.
The youth calendar also includes the annual under-12 festival, part of the federation’s efforts to strengthen grassroots basketball and encourage young players to take up the sport.
The QBF said the season calendar was designed to provide clubs and teams with greater clarity and allow them to plan their preparations well in advance.
The new season will offer competitions across multiple age groups while maintaining regular domestic opportunities for players throughout the campaign.
The federation will announce the remaining schedules, including dates for the Qatar Cup, Emir Cup, youth cup competitions and under-12 festival, in due course.
