OSTRAVA, Czech Republic : Qatar’s beach volleyball duo of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan advanced to the quarter-finals of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite16 Ostrava after defeating Sweden’s Holting Nilsson and Andersson in straight sets on Saturday.
The Qatari pair secured a 21-19 21-18 victory in a closely contested Round of 16 match, producing a disciplined display and maintaining control at key moments to seal their place in the last eight.
Cherif and Ahmed will next face Argentina’s Nicolas Capogrosso and Tomas Capogrosso in the quarter-finals.
The Argentine duo progressed after overcoming Brazil’s Andre and Renato in three sets in their Round of 16 encounter.
Qatar opened their campaign in Ostrava with a victory over Latvia before defeating France in the group stage. Although they later suffered a narrow loss to the United States, the pair recovered strongly to remain among the leading contenders in the tournament.
The Ostrava Elite 16 event concludes on Sunday and is one of the premier stops on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour, featuring many of the world’s top-ranked teams.
