JEDDAH : Oman qualified for the semi-finals of the Gulf Arab Cup after the Gulf Football Federation’s competitions committee used a draw to settle a tie with Iraq in Group A.
The decision came after the third round of group matches, with Oman and Iraq level on all the ranking criteria set out in the tournament regulations.
The criteria included head-to-head results, goal difference, goals scored and disciplinary points. With neither team gaining an advantage through those measures, the committee proceeded to a draw as the final tie-breaker.
The draw was conducted in the presence of representatives of the relevant authorities and resulted in Oman securing a place in the semi-finals.
The decision was made in accordance with Article Seven of the Regulations for the Rules and Conditions of Matches, which provides for a draw when teams remain level after all approved ranking criteria have been exhausted.
