Marsh seeks IPL form after World Cup setback

Bengaluru, India : Mitchell Marsh is looking to move on from a disappointing Twenty20 World Cup and rediscover his form in the Indian Premier League, with Lucknow Super Giants struggling early in the season.

The 34-year-old all-rounder, who enjoyed a standout IPL campaign last year with 627 runs at an average of 48.23, has managed just 155 runs in six matches this season at 25.83.

“I probably haven’t got going. I think you can maybe search a little bit too much at times,” Marsh told Reuters. “I know that I’m probably one or two boundaries away from really getting going.”

Lucknow have lost three matches in a row and sit ninth in the 10-team table, raising concerns about another missed playoff opportunity.

“It’s a long tournament and we’ve got great belief that we can challenge the best teams,” Marsh said. “If we can put together a full 40 overs as a unit, we’re going to be very hard to break.”

Marsh played a key role in Perth Scorchers winning the Big Bash League title in January, but a groin injury disrupted his preparations for the T20 World Cup.

Australia suffered a shock group-stage exit after defeats to Zimbabwe national cricket team and Sri Lanka national cricket team, their earliest elimination since 2009.

“Pretty much every game is a knockout with the way it’s structured… one failure can cost you a spot,” Marsh said, declining to elaborate on internal discussions after the exit.

He added that his focus is now firmly on helping Lucknow secure their first IPL title.

“I’ve got great faith in this group… our best cricket is ahead of us.”
