Los Angeles, California, USA : Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has reportedly been voted the NBA’s Most Valuable Player for a second consecutive season, ESPN reported on Sunday.
The official announcement is expected later on Sunday evening.
Gilgeous-Alexander would become the 14th player in NBA history to win back-to-back MVP awards and the first since Nikola Jokic captured the honour in 2020-21 and 2021-22. He would also become the first guard to repeat as MVP since Stephen Curry achieved the feat with the Golden State Warriors in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
The 27-year-old starred in another dominant regular season for the Oklahoma City Thunder after signing a four-year supermax extension in the offseason, averaging 31.1 points, 6.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds across 68 starts.
Since entering the league with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2018, the Canadian has emerged as one of the NBA’s premier two-way players, posting career averages of 25.3 points, 5.3 assists and 4.7 rebounds.
Gilgeous-Alexander also helped Oklahoma City win the NBA championship last season, with the Thunder now preparing to face the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference finals as they pursue consecutive titles.
