Mumbai, India : Sanju Samson said adaptability and an open mindset have been central to his strong run of form in the Indian Premier League after his match-winning century powered Chennai Super Kings to a dominant victory over Mumbai Indians.
After starting the season with three single-digit scores, Samson struck an unbeaten 101 off 54 balls on Thursday, guiding Chennai to a 103-run win at Wankhede Stadium.
The innings was his second century of the campaign and took his tally to 293 runs from seven matches, placing him third in the scoring charts behind Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen.
Samson said he adjusted his approach after finding the pitch less responsive than expected.
“I think the game tells you what to do,” he said. “You don’t have to come with a preconceived mindset or premeditate how you want to play.
“It is my responsibility to understand the situation and what the team demands, and plan my game around it. I definitely go with a very open mindset.”
The 31-year-old, who was named player of the tournament when India national cricket team defended their T20 World Cup title earlier this year, said the win was especially satisfying given the opposition and venue.
“It really feels great to score a century in Wankhede against Mumbai Indians,” Samson added, as Chennai climbed to fifth place in the 10-team standings.
