DOHA : Al Rayyan SC claimed their first Gulf Champions League title with a 3-0 win over Al Shabab FC in the final of the 32nd edition at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.
Goals from David Garcia, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Roger Guedes in the second half sealed a comfortable victory for the Qatari side.
Al Shabab dominated the opening period, creating several chances but were repeatedly denied by goalkeeper Mahmoud Abu Nada, who produced a series of key saves to keep the scores level at the break.
The match turned shortly after halftime when Yannick Carrasco was sent off in the 58th minute after receiving a second yellow card, leaving the Saudi side a man down.
Al Rayyan capitalised on the advantage, breaking the deadlock through Garcia in the 60th minute before Mitrovic doubled the lead in the 78th. Guedes added a third three minutes later to wrap up the win and secure the club’s maiden GCCL crown.
