London, Britain : AFC Bournemouth delivered a major upset in the Premier League title race, defeating leaders Arsenal 2-1 at Emirates Stadium.
Alex Scott scored the decisive goal in the 74th minute, finishing off a slick move to hand Bournemouth a famous win and give hope to chasing Manchester City.
The visitors had taken the lead earlier through 19-year-old Eli Junior Kroupi, who netted in the 17th minute to continue his impressive debut season, becoming the first teenager since Robbie Keane to reach 10 Premier League goals in a debut campaign.
Arsenal briefly responded when Viktor Gyokeres converted a penalty after a handball by Ryan Christie, but the hosts struggled to find rhythm despite second-half changes from manager Mikel Arteta.
The defeat — Arsenal’s first in nine league matches — leaves them on 70 points from 32 games, nine ahead of Manchester City, who have two games in hand and face Chelsea next. City also host Arsenal in a potentially decisive clash next weekend.
Bournemouth’s win lifts them to ninth and keeps them in the hunt for European qualification, while Arsenal’s title bid has taken a significant blow in what Arteta described as “a big punch in the face.”
