DOHA :  Aspetar has announced a comprehensive medical support programme for the Qatar national football team ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be held across the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19.

Acting Director General Khalid Ali Al Mawlawi said supporting national teams formed part of Aspetar’s integrated approach to athlete performance and long-term development.

“At Aspetar, we are committed to helping our athletes achieve peak physical and mental readiness through precise scientific approaches and advanced rehabilitation programmes tailored to the demands of elite international competition,” Al Mawlawi said.

He added that Aspetar works closely with technical and medical staff to ensure informed decisions that balance performance and player wellbeing.

As Qatar prepare for their second appearance at a FIFA World Cup, Aspetar’s National Team Sports Medicine Unit will continue to oversee injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation through a multidisciplinary team of physicians, physiotherapists, rehabilitation specialists and performance experts.

The unit, established under the National Sports Medicine Program, has supported the national team throughout the qualification campaign and will remain involved during the tournament.

Director of the National Team Sports Medicine Unit Riadh Miladi described the programme as a strategic initiative aimed at delivering specialised medical care during major international competitions.

“With Aspetar’s advanced facilities and scientific expertise, we are able to manage a wide range of medical cases, from prevention to rehabilitation, ensuring that Qatar’s players are ready at all times,” Miladi said.

With matches scheduled across multiple cities in North America, Aspetar said it has developed tailored programmes to help players adapt to climate variations, long-distance travel and altitude conditions. These measures include hydration protocols, heat management, recovery plans and mental wellbeing support.

Aspetar will also coordinate with its surgery, radiology and rehabilitation departments during the tournament to provide rapid medical assessments and emergency support if required.

Qatar national team medical director Ian McGuinness said Aspetar had played an essential role throughout the team’s qualification journey.

“Aspetar has been with our national team every step of the way during this historic campaign and is a vital part of our success story,” McGuinness said.
