LONDON : Champions Arsenal maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 2-0 victory at Sunderland on Saturday, moving clear at the top of the table as title rivals Liverpool and Chelsea were held to draws.
David Raya’s penalty save in the 55th minute proved decisive before Bruno Guimaraes put Arsenal ahead two minutes later with his first goal for the club.
Bukayo Saka sealed the victory from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time as Arsenal made it four wins from four.
Liverpool’s stuttering start continued as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Fulham, while Chelsea needed a second-half equaliser from Joao Pedro to rescue a 2-2 draw against surprise package Hull City.
Aston Villa scored their first league goal of the season but suffered a 2-1 home defeat by Nottingham Forest, while Ipswich Town secured a 3-2 victory at 10-man Crystal Palace.
Bournemouth and Brentford shared a 2-2 draw, while Tottenham Hotspur remained the only team in the top flight yet to score after being held 0-0 at home by Everton.
The result marked the first time in Tottenham’s history that they have failed to score in their opening four league matches of a season.
