DOHA — Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF) President and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi hailed the success of the 10th FISU World University Weightlifting Championship in Doha, praising its technical and organisational standards.
Al Nuaimi said the championship was staged to a high standard that reflected Qatar’s experience in hosting major international sporting events.
He said the competition featured strong performances and fierce competition among the participating weightlifters, who displayed enthusiasm and competitiveness throughout the event.
Al Nuaimi said the successful staging of the championship from its opening through to the final day demonstrated Qatar’s ability to host major international sporting events.
He also highlighted the championship’s role in bringing student-athletes together from different countries, promoting fair competition and giving young lifters opportunities to gain experience at national, regional and international levels.
Al Nuaimi congratulated Qatari lifter Wissal Yakhlef, a Lusail University student, on winning three gold medals in the women’s over-86kg category. He described her achievement as an important addition to Qatar’s successful hosting of the championship and wished her further success at upcoming Asian and international competitions.
Qatar Weightlifting Federation Secretary-General Jassim Ibrahim Al Mansouri also congratulated Yakhlef on her performance and thanked the organising committee and everyone involved in staging the championship.
Al Mansouri said hosting the event at Education City had provided an opportunity to demonstrate Qatar’s organisational capabilities while contributing to the development of weightlifting.
He added that the participation of about 116 athletes from 21 countries reflected the scale and competitive level of the championship, while giving the lifters valuable experience and opportunities to learn from athletes from different backgrounds.
The five-day championship concluded in Doha after combining high-level competition with opportunities for young athletes to gain international experience, while further strengthening Qatar’s role as a host of major university sporting events.
