DOHA : Al Sadd Sports Club and Al Gharafa Sports Club began their campaigns with victories in the opening round of the qualifying stage for the 2025-26 HH the Amir Volleyball Cup.
Al Sadd eased past Al Shamal Sports Club 3-0 in their Group B clash, with set scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-19. The group also features Al Ahli Sports Club.
In Group A, Al Gharafa claimed a 3-1 win over Al Khor Sports Club in a closely contested match. The set scores were 25-14, 25-16, 19-25 and 29-27. Qatar SC is the other team in the group.
The qualifying stage features teams that finished between fifth and 10th in the league, divided into two groups competing in a round-robin format over three rounds. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
The four qualifiers will join league leaders Al Arabi Sports Club, Al Wakrah Sports Club, Police Sports Club and Al Rayyan Sports Club in the last eight.
The second round of matches will be played on Friday, with Qatar SC facing Al Gharafa and Al Ahli taking on Al Sadd. The final round is scheduled for Saturday.
Separately, the Qatar Football Association will conduct the draw for the HH the Amir Cup quarter-finals on April 6.
