NEW YORK : The World Cup trophy will make its arrival at Sunday’s final in New York in a bespoke Louis Vuitton trunk, with the French luxury fashion house once again entrusted with transporting football’s most prestigious prize.
The handcrafted trunk features a gold “V” representing both “Victory” and “Vuitton”, alongside the brand’s signature monogram canvas and gold-plated brass corner protectors.
Its interior is lined with beige leather and includes a patch marking the partnership between Louis Vuitton and FIFA.
It is the fifth consecutive men’s World Cup for which Louis Vuitton has designed a custom trunk for the trophy, following the 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 tournaments.
“For over a decade, Louis Vuitton and FIFA have shared an unwavering commitment to excellence, bound by a shared belief in sport’s power to inspire and bring people together,” Louis Vuitton Chairman and CEO Pietro Beccari said in a statement.
Luxury brands have become increasingly prominent in global sport.
Tiffany & Co. has crafted the Vince Lombardi Trophy awarded to the Super Bowl champions since the first championship game in 1967, while Louis Vuitton also produces bespoke trophy trunks for Formula One under a long-term partnership with the sport.
Unlike many other sporting trophies, however, there is only one official FIFA World Cup trophy. It is normally housed at the FIFA Museum in Zurich, making the opportunity to design its travelling case one of the luxury brand’s highest-profile sporting collaborations.
