Brooklyn, New York : The Dallas Wings have strengthened their roster by signing Alanna Smith, the 2025 WNBA co-Defensive Player of the Year, to a reported three-year max contract.
Smith, 29, joins from the Minnesota Lynx, where she played a key role in their league-best 34-10 regular season and elite defensive record. She shared the Defensive Player of the Year honor with A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces.
A versatile 6-foot-4 forward, Smith ranked third in the league in blocks (80) and tied for 10th in steals (55) last season, underlining her impact on defense. She averaged 9.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 1.3 steals across 42 starts.
Wings general manager Curt Miller praised Smith’s two-way ability, highlighting her defensive versatility and her capacity to contribute both inside and on the perimeter.
Before her stint in Minnesota, Smith played for the Phoenix Mercury, Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky since being selected eighth overall in the 2019 WNBA Draft out of Stanford.
Her arrival marks a significant addition for Dallas as they look to build a more competitive and defensively dominant squad.
