San Antonio, Texas, USA : The Minnesota Timberwolves held off the San Antonio Spurs 104-102 in a tightly contested Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series on Monday.
Julius Randle led Minnesota with 21 points, while Anthony Edwards made a strong return from injury, contributing 18 points off the bench in limited minutes.
Minnesota took control in the fourth quarter, with Edwards scoring 11 of the team’s early points before a decisive 7-0 run gave them a crucial lead. A late push from San Antonio fell short when Julian Champagnie missed a potential game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.
The Spurs were led by Dylan Harper with 18 points, while Victor Wembanyama delivered a remarkable triple-double of 11 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 blocks despite struggling from long range.
Minnesota’s supporting cast also played a key role, with Jaden McDaniels and Terrence Shannon Jr. adding 16 points each, while Mike Conley contributed 12 points, including a key late three-pointer.
Game 2 of the series will be played in San Antonio on Wednesday, with the Timberwolves aiming to extend their early advantage.
