Bengaluru :Tim David delivered a stunning power-hitting display as Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Chennai Super Kings by 43 runs in the Indian Premier League on Sunday.
The Australian smashed an unbeaten 70 off just 25 balls, including eight sixes, as Bengaluru made it two wins from two in their title defence.
David’s innings featured a massive 106-metre six that landed on the roof of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, drawing huge cheers from the crowd.
“I’ve been getting in trouble during training trying to hit the roof,” David said after being named Player of the Match. “To do it in a game was good fun.”
Bengaluru now lead the early standings, ahead of Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings on net run rate.
Captain Rajat Patidar also played a key role with an unbeaten 48 off 19 balls, setting the platform for David’s explosive finish, including a 30-run over off Jamie Overton.
Chasing a daunting 251, Chennai were bowled out for 207 with two balls remaining. Despite staying in the contest for much of the chase, they lost momentum in the final overs.
“If you look at the score, we were ahead until about five overs to go, and then they just went like a rocket,” said head coach Stephen Fleming.
It marked a third consecutive defeat for Chennai, leaving them at the bottom of the table.
