Oklahoma, USA : The Oklahoma City Thunder opened their Western Conference semifinal series with a convincing 108-90 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Chet Holmgren led the charge with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Ajay Mitchell added 18 points each as the Thunder stayed unbeaten in the playoffs.
Fourth-Quarter Surge Seals It
The Lakers stayed competitive into the final quarter, but back-to-back three-pointers from Jared McCain stretched the lead to 19 and effectively ended the contest. Oklahoma City’s bench also proved decisive, outscoring Los Angeles’ reserves 34-15.
Lakers Struggle Despite LeBron Effort
LeBron James led the Lakers with 27 points, while Rui Hachimura added 18 and Deandre Ayton posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
However, Los Angeles shot just 41.7% from the field and were limited to their lowest playoff score since 2021. Austin Reaves struggled, finishing with eight points on 3-of-16 shooting.
Injury Concern
The Lakers also suffered a blow when Jarred Vanderbilt exited the game with a dislocated finger and did not return.
Series Outlook
With a 1-0 series lead, the Thunder continue their dominant postseason run after sweeping the Phoenix Suns in the first round. Game 2 will test whether the Lakers can respond and level the series.
Oklahoma City’s balance, shooting efficiency, and depth proved too strong in Game 1, leaving the Lakers needing quick adjustments to stay in the series.
