Jamshedpur: Indian football has suffered another major setback after Jamshedpur FC announced its withdrawal from the Indian Super League (ISL) ahead of the 2026-27 season, bringing an end to the club’s nine-year association with the country’s premier football competition.
The club, owned by Tata Steel through Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited (JFSPL), confirmed the decision in an official statement released on social media.
While stepping away from the ISL, JFSPL stressed that it remains committed to the long-term growth of Indian football and will continue investing in the sport beyond professional competition.
“Jamshedpur Football Club would like to confirm that it will not be participating in ISL from the 2026-27 season onwards. JFSPL remains committed, in other capacities, to the continued growth and development of football in India. We will continue in our endeavor to promote and develop the game of football, including at the grassroots level. We will continue to identify and develop young football talent across India to create a strong pathway for young players from grassroots to national and international football,” the club said in its statement.
The announcement marks the end of an era for Jamshedpur FC, one of the founding clubs of the Indian Super League, and raises fresh concerns about the future of Indian club football. Despite exiting the league, the club has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing young talent and strengthening the grassroots ecosystem, signalling that its contribution to Indian football will continue in a different capacity.
Jamshedpur FC’s withdrawal comes at a challenging time for Indian football, with the development adding to growing uncertainty surrounding the domestic football landscape ahead of the 2026-27 season.
