COLOMBO : Sri Lanka lost six wickets in their second innings against India in the second test in Colombo after being asked to follow on with a 213-run first-innings deficit.
Pasindu Sooriyabandara narrowly missed out on a century, falling for 92 after being stumped while attempting an aggressive shot.
The dismissal came one ball after Sooriyabandara survived a leg-before-wicket appeal while trying to sweep. The umpire initially gave him out, but the decision was overturned after a review showed he had edged the ball onto his pad.
India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant then predicted that Sooriyabandara would attempt another big shot on the following delivery.
His prediction proved accurate as the Sri Lankan batter charged down the pitch but was beaten and stumped, ending a determined innings.
India had earlier declared their first innings on 503-9, with Dhruv Jurel unbeaten on 115 and Devdutt Padikkal scoring 117.
Sri Lanka now face a difficult task to avoid defeat after India secured a substantial first-innings advantage and enforced the follow-on.
India lead the two-test series 1-0.
