Munich, Germany : Second seed Ben Shelton moved into his second final of the year with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Slovak qualifier Alex Molcan at the BMW Open in Munich on Saturday.
Shelton, who was beaten in last year’s final, will meet fourth seed Flavio Cobolli, who upset top seed and defending champion Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-3.
The American did not rely heavily on his serve but faced just one break point, breaking Molcan late in both sets to reach his seventh ATP Tour final.
Cobolli fired 32 winners and dropped only eight points on serve in a dominant display against Zverev, breaking the German four times, including in the final game. It marked the Italian’s first victory over a top-five opponent.
Shelton leads their head-to-head 3-2, having won all three meetings in 2025.
At the Barcelona Open, fifth seed Andrey Rublev and ninth seed Arthur Fils both battled through to the final in three sets.
Rublev rallied past Serbian qualifier Hamad Medjedovic 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, winning the last four games to reach his 29th ATP final. He converted four of nine break points, while Medjedovic managed one of six.
Fils came from a set down to defeat Spain’s Rafael Jodar 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, ending the 19-year-old’s eight-match winning streak.
With the deciding set level at 3-3, Fils saved four break points before breaking serve and holding off two more break chances in the final game to seal victory.
The pair have split their previous two meetings, with Fils winning their most recent encounter on clay in Monte Carlo last year.
