SPIELBERG, Austria : George Russell converted pole position into victory at the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, securing his second Formula One win of the season and reducing Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli’s lead in the drivers’ championship to 40 points.
Russell crossed the finish line 1.6 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who recovered from fifth on the grid after crashing in qualifying at his team’s home circuit.
Antonelli completed the podium in third, finishing just 0.3 seconds behind Verstappen after a late charge to the flag.
The victory was Russell’s second of the campaign after winning the season-opening Australian Grand Prix and gave Mercedes their seventh win in the opening eight races.
Antonelli continues to lead the championship with 171 points, followed by Russell on 131, while Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton remains third on 125 after finishing fifth in Austria following a race-long battle with Verstappen.
