Chongqing: The opening round of the WTT Champions Chongqing 2026, presented by AITO, kicked off with drama and surprises as the tournament quickly shifted into high gear. Over two days at the Bloomage Biotech Biohyalux ECM Arena in Chongqing, top seeds were tested, big names fell early, and rising contenders made their presence felt.

The Round of 32 delivered exactly what fans expect from a WTT Champions event—intensity, quality, and unpredictability—setting the stage for an exciting week of table tennis.

Odo Stuns Wang Manyu

One of the biggest stories in the women’s draw came from Japan’s Satsuki Odo, who produced a sensational performance to defeat World No.2 Wang Manyu in straight games, 3-0 (11-7, 11-5, 11-3).

Odo played fearless, attacking table tennis throughout the match, dismantling one of the tournament favourites with remarkable composure. The commanding win not only sent shockwaves through the draw but also highlighted the Japanese star’s growing confidence and form on the WTT stage.

Sun Yingsha Starts Title Defence in Style

Meanwhile, World No.1 Sun Yingsha began her campaign strongly, defeating Joo Cheonhui in straight games, 3-0 (11-5, 13-11, 11-8). The composed performance marked the first step in Sun’s bid for a third consecutive title in Chongqing.

Zhu Yuling Edges Tight Contest

China’s Zhu Yuling also progressed after navigating a high-quality battle against veteran defender Ying Han. Despite the close exchanges, Zhu maintained control to close the match in three games and continue her impressive early-season run.

Wang Yidi Survives Goda Challenge

It was a tougher outing for Wang Yidi, who had to fight hard to overcome an inspired Hana Goda. The Egyptian teenager pushed Wang deep into a four-game contest before the Chinese star eventually sealed a 3-1 victory (6-11, 7-11, 11-4, 11-13).

With early shocks and strong statements already shaping the draw, the Round of 32 has set an electrifying tone for the rest of WTT Champions Chongqing 2026, where the battle for one of the tour’s biggest titles is only just getting started.
