Doha: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) has called for greater consultation, transparency and institutional governance within the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), stressing the importance of ensuring that member associations are properly heard when decisions are taken collectively.
In a statement attributed to QFA President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the association said the strength and unity of Asian football depend on “open consultation, mutual respect and sound institutional governance.”
The QFA said recent correspondence with the AFC had raised an important question over the processes through which positions are adopted in the collective name of AFC member associations.
According to the statement, the issue is not related to personalities or whether individual associations support or oppose a particular position. Instead, it concerns how the views of member associations are gathered and represented when the AFC speaks collectively.
The QFA stressed that its concerns were raised in a “constructive and brotherly spirit,” while reaffirming its respect for the AFC and its leadership.
The association said its objective is to contribute to stronger governance, greater unity and enhanced credibility for Asian football.
The statement comes amid broader discussions within Asian football over institutional processes and representation.
