WASHINGTON: Qatar’s Abdulrahman Ibrahim qualified for the men’s hammer throw final at the World Athletics U20 Championships in the United States on Thursday, marking a successful debut at the global age-group event.
Abdulrahman secured his place in the medal round with a throw of 71.70 metres during the qualification phase and will compete in Friday’s final.
The Qatari is among six athletes representing the Gulf nation at the championships across a range of disciplines.
The squad also includes Abdullah Al Abdullah in the pole vault, Abdulrahman Al Malki in the high jump, Hamad Dhawi in the discus throw, Yousef Abdulaziz in the 400 metres and Mohammed Waheed in the 1,500 metres.
Yousef Abdulaziz is also scheduled to compete on Friday when he takes part in the men’s 400 metres, while Abdulrahman will be aiming to secure a podium finish in the hammer throw final.
Qatar has continued to invest in the development of young athletes through international competitions, with the World U20 Championships providing emerging talent an opportunity to gain experience against some of the world’s leading junior competitors.
