AICHI-NAGOYA, Japan: Qatar won two gold medals in men’s skeet at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday, taking the team and individual titles.
Rashed Saleh Al Athba, Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah and Ali Ishaq won the team gold with 353 targets, ahead of Kuwait on 348 and India on 346.
Al Athba then added the individual title, scoring 34 targets in the final to set a new Asian record. China’s Lyu Jianlin won silver with 33 targets, while Chinese Taipei’s Lee Meng-Yuan took bronze with 29.
Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation president Dr Mishaal Al Nasr welcomed the results, describing the two gold medals as a significant achievement for Qatari shooting and sport.
Al Nasr congratulated the shooters and dedicated the achievement to Qatar’s leadership and Qatar Olympic Committee president Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani.
He said the results showed that Qatari athletes were capable of delivering when given support, adding that the achievement demonstrated the impact of the attention and backing provided to the country’s athletes.
Al Nasr also said the medals would encourage the team to continue working towards future competitions, while praising the shooters for handling the competition and securing the top positions.
The two skeet gold medals give Qatar another successful result at the Asian Games and add to the country’s medal campaign in Aichi-Nagoya.
