DOHA: Qatar’s National Sport Day Committee has unveiled plans for the 2027 edition, which will coincide with the holy month of Ramadan for the first time, under the theme “Ramadan… A Golden Opportunity.”
The announcement was made at a press conference at Lusail Sports Arena on Sunday, with organisers outlining nationwide activities aimed at encouraging physical fitness and promoting healthier lifestyles.
National Sport Day Committee President Abdulrahman bin Musallam Al Dosari said the timing offered an opportunity to encourage people to incorporate regular exercise into their daily routines during Ramadan.
He stressed that sport should be regarded as a sustainable lifestyle rather than an activity limited to special occasions.
The February event will feature activities at public parks, walking and running tracks and sports facilities across Qatar, including football, basketball, tennis, cycling, swimming, taekwondo and fitness exercises.
Programmes will cater to different age groups and physical abilities to encourage wider community participation
Ministry of Public Health official Nasser Ahmed Al Khori said health teams would be deployed at event venues to provide medical assistance and ensure participants’ safety.
Established by an Amiri decree in 2011, National Sport Day is observed annually on the second Tuesday of February as part of Qatar’s efforts to promote physical activity and public health.
