WARSAW: Qatar pole vaulter Saif Al Din Mohamed set a new national record by clearing 5.90 metres at the Sopot Athletics Meet in Poland on Thursday.
The 2025 Asian Athletics Federation Best U-23 Athlete award winner continued his strong run of performances, improving the national mark while adding to a series of records he has set in Gulf and West Asian competitions.
Mohamed’s latest achievement came just two weeks after he cleared 5.83 metres at the Jokgrimm Athletics Meet in Germany. That performance had surpassed his previous national record of 5.62 metres, set at last year’s Arab Championships in Algeria.
The 5.90-metre clearance represents another significant step forward for the 2026 Asian Games-bound athlete, who has continued to improve his performances on the international circuit.
Mohamed is part of Qatar’s national athletics team preparing to compete at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, next month, where he will be among the country’s leading medal prospects in the field events.
His latest record also strengthens his credentials ahead of the continental multi-sport event as Qatar looks to build on its performances across athletics.
