DOHA : The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has launched the second edition of its Team Qatar Summer 2026 programme, aimed at encouraging young people to embrace sport, healthy lifestyles and community engagement during the school holidays.
The programme, organised by the QOC’s Sports Events Department, runs from June 28 to July 9 and is open to children of QOC employees. It is being delivered in partnership with the Qatar Stars League Foundation, the Qatar Bowling Federation, Perf Up Centre and several national sports federations.
The initiative caters to children aged between eight and 12, while a separate volunteer programme for participants aged 16 to 18 is designed to develop leadership, teamwork and responsibility through practical experience.
According to the QOC, the programme seeks to promote physical and mental well-being, strengthen life skills, reinforce positive values and identify promising young sporting talent through a range of educational and sporting activities.
The opening day saw 30 boys visit the Qatar Bowling Federation to learn the basics of the sport, with activities for girls scheduled to begin on July 5.
Participants will also visit the Qatar Police Sports Federation, Lusail Shooting Range, Perf Up Centre, the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum 3-2-1, the Qatar Stars League Foundation and the Qatar Gymnastics Federation as part of the programme.
Programme director Maryam Al Mujaba said the strong turnout on the opening day reflected growing recognition of sport’s role in youth development.
She added that the initiative aims to develop participants’ skills while promoting Olympic values, discipline and teamwork in a safe and professionally supervised environment, in line with the QOC’s vision of encouraging healthier lifestyles among young people.
