DOHA  : Qatar goalkeeper Mahmoud Abu Nada said the national team are prepared to perform at their highest level at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as they get set for their first appearance at the tournament through the qualification process.

Speaking in an interview released by the Qatar Football Association on Sunday, Abu Nada described securing qualification as a historic achievement and credited supporters for playing a key role in the team’s successful campaign.

“Qualifying for the World Cup finals through the qualification process for the first time was an incredible feeling,” Abu Nada said.

The goalkeeper said Qatar’s objective at the tournament was to deliver strong performances and showcase the progress made by football in the Gulf nation.

“Our goal is to present an image that reflects the development of Qatari football and make our fans proud,” he said.

Abu Nada also reflected on his own international journey, saying it remained a privilege to represent his country since earning his first call-up in 2020.

“Representing the national team is a source of pride for any player. Since my first selection, I have always tried to give my best in every match,” he said.

The goalkeeper praised the influence of head coach Julen Lopetegui, saying the Spaniard and his staff had worked tirelessly to ensure the squad were fully prepared for the challenge ahead.

“He pushes us to perform at our best in training and matches and motivates every player to help the team project the image we want,” Abu Nada said.

He also highlighted the importance of fan support, particularly during Qatar’s Asian playoff campaign, pointing to the decisive victory over the United Arab Emirates as an example of the impact supporters can have.

“The fans had a profound influence through their encouragement and support, and we hope to have that same backing at the World Cup,” he added.

Qatar continue their preparations ahead of the tournament, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

They will open their Group Stage campaign against Switzerland in San Francisco before facing hosts Canada in Vancouver on June 18. Qatar will complete their group fixtures against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Seattle on June 24.
