DOHA : Qatar is finalising preparations to host the World Shooting Championships at Lusail Shooting Complex from Nov. 1-14, with 36 qualification places for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games at stake.
The championships are expected to attract around 1,100 shooters from 92 countries competing in rifle, pistol and shotgun disciplines, including skeet and trap.
A total of 36 Olympic quota places will be awarded across 12 individual events, with three places available in each. Qualification competitions will take place from Nov. 3-12.
Qatar Shooting and Archery Association Secretary-General Jassim Al Sulaiti said preparations were nearly complete and Lusail was ready to welcome leading international and Olympic shooters.
He said the championships represented an important milestone for Qatari shooting, with strong international participation and Olympic qualification opportunities expected to raise the level of competition.
Qatar will field 22 shooters aiming to compete for medals and secure places at the Los Angeles Games.
Al Sulaiti said the national team had completed training camps and participated in international and continental competitions, including the recent Asian Games in Japan, as part of its preparations.
The qualification programme begins on Nov. 3 with the men’s and women’s 10m air rifle events, followed by rapid-fire pistol, air pistol and skeet competitions.
The remaining events, including 50m rifle three positions, women’s 25m pistol and trap, will conclude the Olympic qualification programme on Nov. 12.
Al Sulaiti expressed confidence that Qatar’s experience in hosting major international competitions, combined with Lusail’s facilities and technical expertise, would help ensure a successful championship.
