AMMAN : Qatar won the Asian Men’s U-19 Handball Championship in Jordan on Monday after defeating Bahrain 28-24 in the final to complete an unbeaten campaign.
Qatar led 16-10 at halftime and maintained control after the break to secure their latest continental title.
The Qatari side reached the final after beating South Korea 32-28 in the semi-finals, while Bahrain advanced with a 26-23 victory over Iran.
Qatar had earlier topped Group B with a perfect eight points after wins over Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran and Syria. They then routed hosts Jordan 33-13 in the quarter-finals before overcoming South Korea.
The title also secured Qatar’s qualification for the 2027 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship in North Macedonia, where they will make their seventh appearance.
Qatar Handball Association president Ahmed Al Shaabi praised the players and coaching staff, saying the achievement reflected the continued development of the sport in the country.
Secretary-General Mohammed Jaber also hailed the team’s technical and physical performances, saying the championship added to Qatar’s strong record of success in continental, regional and international handball.
The Asian title is expected to provide a boost to Qatar’s preparations for the 2027 world championship.
