AHMEDABAD, India : Qatar recorded their first victory of the 2026 Asian Men’s Volleyball Cup with a convincing straight-sets win over Thailand on Sunday, boosting their hopes of reaching the knockout stage of the tournament in Ahmedabad.
After suffering a five-set defeat to Oman in their opening match, Qatar responded with an assured display, asserting their dominance from the outset and sweeping aside Thailand in three consecutive sets.
Qatar controlled the match with disciplined serving, effective blocking and consistent attacking play, rarely allowing Thailand to establish momentum.
The victory strengthens Qatar’s position in the group standings and keeps them firmly in contention for one of the qualification places for the knockout rounds.
Qatar will continue their first-round campaign against Indonesia on Monday before taking on Bahrain on June 25. They will conclude the group stage against South Korea on June 26.
The tournament, being held in Ahmedabad, runs through June 29, with teams competing for a place in the latter stages of the continental competition.
Having recovered from their opening setback, Qatar will look to build on Sunday’s performance as they seek to secure progression to the next round.
