DOHA : The Qatar Basketball Federation joined an awareness workshop organised by the Qatar Olympic Committee for athletes preparing to compete at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4.

Federation Secretary-General and national teams director Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari attended the workshop alongside members of Qatar’s national basketball teams.

The session covered organisational procedures and participation guidelines for athletes and delegation members ahead of the continental multi-sport event.

Team Qatar’s administrative delegation outlined regulations and standards set by the Olympic Council of Asia and introduced the “Al-Mirqab” platform, which provides federations and delegations with updates and information related to the Games.

Athletes also attended an anti-doping awareness session conducted by the Qatar Anti-Doping Agency, which highlighted competitors’ responsibilities and compliance requirements.
The workshop also addressed media relations, including responsible engagement with journalists, positive representation of Qatar and appropriate use of digital platforms.

Qatar’s men’s basketball team will compete in Group B alongside Iran, Jordan and Chinese Taipei. They begin their campaign against Iran on Sept. 10 before facing Jordan two days later and Chinese Taipei on Sept. 13.

Qatar will also field men’s and women’s teams in the 3×3 basketball competition. The men’s side is drawn in Group C with Indonesia, Chinese Taipei and Bahrain, while the women’s team will face China, Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka in Group A.

The Asian Games form part of Qatar’s preparations for several international commitments, providing the national teams with an opportunity to gain experience against leading Asian opposition.
