JOHANNESBURG : Lhuan-dre Pretorius hit a record 188 not out from 79 balls for the Titans against the Knights in South Africa’s CSA T20 Challenge on Friday, setting the highest individual score in a recognised men’s 20-over match.
The 20-year-old left-hander struck 15 fours and 13 sixes as he surpassed the previous record of 175 not out set by former West Indies international Chris Gayle for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League in 2013.
Pretorius had been on course for a score of 200 but ran out of overs as the Titans finished on 267-3.
His innings continued a strong run of form. Pretorius scored 101 from 53 balls for South Africa against Namibia in a T20 international last month, although his recent progress has also been interrupted by injury.
The record innings underlined Pretorius’ recent form and gave the Titans a total of 267-3, with the 20-year-old’s 188 not out setting a new benchmark for an individual T20 innings.
