Oman : Oman have appointed Moroccan Tarik Sektioui as head coach, the country’s football association said on Sunday, shortly after announcing the departure of Portuguese veteran Carlos Queiroz by mutual consent.
Local media reported last week that Queiroz, 73, had stepped down because of regional instability linked to the conflict in the Middle East.
Queiroz had taken charge in July 2025 on a one-year contract and oversaw 11 matches, winning three, drawing five and losing three.
During his spell in charge, Oman exited the Arab Cup at the group stage and failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after losing in the Asian playoff last October.
Sektioui, 48, arrives after leading Morocco’s A team to the Arab Cup title in Qatar last December and guiding the country’s Olympic side to a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Games.
The Oman Football Association did not disclose the terms of his contract.
Oman are building towards the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.
