MEXICO CITY : Veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa returned to Mexico’s squad on Thursday after coach Javier Aguirre named the 40-year-old in his roster for this month’s World Cup warm-up matches against Portugal and Belgium.
Ochoa, who plays for Limassol in Cyprus, is hoping to feature in a sixth World Cup after appearing in five consecutive editions from 2006 through Qatar.
He had not been called up since May 2025, when he was included in Mexico’s Gold Cup squad but did not play.
The squad also includes Spanish-born midfielder Alvaro Fidalgo, who could make his first appearance for Mexico after joining Real Betis from Club America in February.
Mexico will face Portugal on March 28 in the reopening of Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium following World Cup renovations before taking on Belgium three days later at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Co-hosts Mexico will begin their World Cup campaign in Group A against South Africa in the tournament’s opening match on June 11.
