Jannik Sinner has parted ways with coach Darren Cahill, the world number two said in a video posted on social media on Friday, with former world number two Magnus Norman set to join his coaching team.
Norman brings considerable coaching experience, having guided fellow Swede Robin Soderling into the world’s top five and to two French Open finals before helping Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka win three Grand Slam titles.
The 50-year-old will work alongside Simone Vagnozzi, who, like Cahill, began coaching Italian Sinner in 2022.
“A large part of who I am, as a player and as a person, I owe to you,” Sinner said of Cahill in a video posted on Instagram.
“Of these five seasons, I won’t forget a single day. Thank you, my friend, for everything. It has been a privilege.”
Sinner has been sidelined by a persistent knee injury since winning the fifth Grand Slam title of his career at Wimbledon in July. He is expected to return to action in December at the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Saudi Arabia.
Cahill, an experienced coach who has guided four players to the world number one ranking, had initially been expected to leave Sinner’s team in 2025 but agreed to stay for another year. He said at Wimbledon that he would remain with the Italian until the end of 2026 before discussing his future.
Sinner rose from a promising young player to the top of men’s tennis under Cahill’s guidance, although his progress was interrupted by a three-month ban in 2025 following two positive tests for trace amounts of clostebol in 2024. He was subsequently cleared of wrongdoing.
Alexander Zverev is guaranteed to finish 2026 as the year-end world number one, with Sinner having decided not to compete in any of the remaining ATP tournaments this year.
