Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi will miss Wednesday’s Major League Soccer All-Star Game in Charlotte, North Carolina, as he continues to recover following Argentina’s run to the FIFA World Cup final.
Messi was one of four players officially withdrawn from the MLS squad on Saturday.
Inter Miami midfielder Rodrigo De Paul will also miss the exhibition after representing Argentina at the World Cup, while Chicago Fire forward Hugo Cuypers was ruled out following his transfer to Mexican club CF Monterrey on Thursday.
Chicago Fire defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi will miss the match with a lower-body injury after also featuring at this summer’s World Cup for South Africa.
Major League Soccer named four replacements for the match against Liga MX’s All-Stars.
Inter Miami midfielder Yannick Bright, Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Andres Cubas, Houston Dynamo forward Guilherme and Chicago Fire forward Philip Zinckernagel were all added to the squad.
Bright has helped Inter Miami to a 9-2-1 record in his 12 starts this season, while Cubas has contributed three assists in 12 appearances for Vancouver.
Guilherme has recorded eight goals and five assists in his first campaign with Houston, while Zinckernagel has registered five goals and seven assists for Chicago this season.
