BERLIN : Former Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios will compete at this year’s Halle Open in June, organisers said on Monday, marking a return to action after a lengthy absence.
The 30-year-old Australian has not played a competitive singles match since January, when he lost in the first round in Brisbane, and currently does not hold a singles ranking after ongoing wrist and knee injuries.
Kyrgios, runner-up at Wimbledon in 2022, has played just seven singles matches since the start of 2023.
“Nick Kyrgios has been one of the most dazzling personalities in world tennis for years,” tournament organisers said in a statement, highlighting his powerful serve, creativity and global appeal.
The Halle event, scheduled for June 13-21, serves as a key warm-up for Wimbledon, which begins on June 29.
Kyrgios has indicated he will focus on the grasscourt season, opting to skip the clay swing as he looks to rebuild form and fitness.
