Harry Kane said the 2025-26 season was the best of his career after scoring 73 goals for Bayern Munich and England, but the striker is not dwelling on whether his performances will earn him the Ballon d’Or.
Kane’s tally was the highest by a player since Lionel Messi scored 82 goals in the 2011-12 season. The England captain is among the leading contenders for the prestigious individual award, alongside Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe.
No English player has won the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001.
“I’ve never liked talking too much about myself. The only thing I’d say is that last season was incredible, both personally and for the team,” Kane told Spanish outlet Marca in an interview published on Friday.
“It was, by far, the best season of my life.”
Kane said he was proud of his goal tally but acknowledged that winning the Ballon d’Or was beyond his control.
“I’m extremely proud of that … but the Ballon d’Or isn’t in my hands. It depends on the people who vote,” he said.
“As far as I’m concerned, last season is in the past. Now I’m focused on this one and I’m looking forward to seeing what else I can achieve.”
The Ballon d’Or winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on Oct. 26.
