MUMBAI: Shreyas Iyer is set to be officially named India’s new T20I captain, replacing Suryakumar Yadav, when the national selection committee meets on Saturday to finalise the squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of the UK and the Asian Games.
India’s UK tour will begin with two T20 Internationals against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28 before the team travels to England for a white-ball series comprising five T20Is and three ODIs, starting on July 1.
The selectors are also expected to announce the squad for the Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, in September and October. The early announcement is necessary to meet the entry deadlines set by the event organisers.
Iyer’s appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for India’s T20 side as the team continues its preparations for a packed international calendar in the lead-up to major global tournaments.
