NAGOYA : India endured a difficult day in kurash at the Asian Games on Sunday, with all four of their athletes eliminated from the competition.
Vishal, who received a first-round bye, lost 5-0 to Thailand’s Kunathip Yea-on in the men’s 90kg quarter-finals.
Vishal made a promising start by scoring a chala, the lowest-scoring evaluation in kurash, but Yea-on quickly levelled with a chala of his own before producing a yonbosh to secure victory.
Yash Kumar Chauhan was eliminated in the men’s 90kg round of 16 after losing to Tajikistan’s Shakarmamad Mirmamdov.
In the women’s competition, Sangita suffered a 10-0 defeat by the Philippines’ Charmea Quelino in the 57kg round of 32.
Bharti also exited in the 57kg category, losing 3-0 to Iran’s Tahereh Azarpeivans in the round of 16.
A chala is awarded for a throw that falls short of a yonbosh, while a yonbosh is a higher-scoring throw that is close to a perfect execution but lacks complete force, control or positioning.
