DOHA: The competitions of the HH Amir Table Tennis Cup for the 2025-2026 sports season got underway on Monday at the Abdullah Bin Suhaim Hall at Qatar Sports Club.
Nine teams — Al Wakrah, Al Shamal, Qatar Club, Al Rayyan, Al Ahli, Al Sadd, Al Khor, Al Gharafa, and Al Arabi — are competing for the prestigious title.
The opening day witnessed thrilling and competitive encounters, highlighted by Al Shamal’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Al Wakrah to secure a place in the quarterfinals.
The match was attended by Qatar Table Tennis Association board member Abdullah Badr Al Sada.
The quarterfinal clashes, scheduled for Tuesday, will see Qatar Club face Al Rayyan, Al Ahli take on Al Sadd, Al Khor meet Al Shamal, and Al Gharafa battle Al Arabi.
The semifinal matches will be held on Wednesday, while the final is set for next Thursday.
Qatar Club enter this year’s tournament as defending champions after winning the title for the eighth time last season with a narrow 3-2 victory over Al Arabi in the final.
