NICOSIA, Cyprus: Saudi Arabian rally driver Hamza Bakhashab heads to Cyprus for the final round of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC), scheduled for October 23–25, with a chance to claim his maiden championship title.
The 22-year-old from Jeddah is currently second in the championship standings, just four points behind Qatari rally star Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah, setting up an exciting title battle at the season-ending Petrolina Cyprus Rally.
Supported by sponsor Jameel Motorsport, Bakhashab initially aimed to gain valuable international rallying experience this season. However, his impressive performances in the opening three rounds have put him firmly in contention for the championship.
With guidance and support from his father, Abdullah Bakhashab, the young Saudi driver has made significant progress throughout the season.
Bakhashab began his campaign at the Oman Rally, where suspension damage saw him finish eighth. He bounced back with a second-place finish in Qatar before securing third place in Jordan.
He will compete in Cyprus alongside Lebanese co-driver Joseph Matar, aiming to overcome the four-point deficit and challenge Al-Attiyah for the Middle East championship crown.
