AHMEDABAD : Shubman Gill says he remains eager to return to India’s T20 International side after being left out of the squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup, insisting his focus remains on improving across all formats of the game.
Speaking ahead of the IPL final between the Gujarat Titans and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Ahmedabad, Gill said he would welcome a recall after an impressive domestic season.
“I’d be happy to play if I get picked for the T20 team,” Gill said. “Honestly, I want to keep working on my game. I want to keep getting better as a T20 batsman, as an ODI batsman, as a Test batsman.”
The 26-year-old, who currently captains India in One-Day Internationals and Tests, endured a difficult T20I campaign in 2025, scoring 291 runs in 15 matches. The dip in form led to his exclusion from the national T20 setup and ultimately from India’s World Cup squad.
Gill last represented India in a T20I against South Africa national cricket team in December 2025 but has rebuilt his case for selection through a strong IPL campaign with Gujarat.
Despite his omission from the T20 squad, Gill said he remains mentally focused by concentrating on preparation and controllable aspects of performance.
“It’s about knowing the things that are in my control and the things that I need to do well to succeed,” he said.
Gill also reserved special praise for teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, whose explosive batting has been one of the standout stories of IPL 2026.
“The kind of season he’s had is remarkable. I’ve not seen anyone bat like the way he bats,” Gill said. “Right now, in this format, he’s one of the best batters in the world.”
Gill highlighted Sooryavanshi’s exceptional hand speed and attacking approach, predicting bowlers around the world would face a difficult challenge containing him in the years ahead.
